RYE, N.Y. – Independent rock duo Peningo Riders have officially released their highly anticipated new single, “High Street Roadhouse,” delivering a high-energy homage to one of New York’s best-kept musical secrets.
Blending funk and Cajun flavors with a sense of barroom intrigue, backroom mystery, legendary local charm, and their signature Southern rock grit, the track demands to be played loud.
The real-life Rye Roadhouse—formerly known as the High Street Roadhouse and, before that, Over the Bridge—has long been known to locals as a hidden gem across the tracks, and a historic venue with a rich pedigree. Frequented by rock royalty, with guitar virtuoso Warren Haynes (The Allman Brothers Band, Gov’t Mule) known to swing by the Roadhouse kitchen for takeout, the venue has also hosted guest appearances from members of the Spin Doctors, rock icon Ace Frehley, and some of the most famous Grateful Dead tribute acts in the country.
“High Street Roadhouse” rocks hard, but also whispers knowingly, hinting at secret stories and secretive characters while bridging the wide geographical divide between the swamps of Louisiana and the streets of New York.
And the gumbo isn’t the only thing simmering. This track is steeped in mystique, punctuated by blistering guitar riffs, drum crescendos, and a smoky Bari Sax conveying the magic of a tucked-away local joint where the music never stops.
The release comes as the Peningo Riders Express is rolling heavier than ever. The band is riding a massive wave of momentum following their viral summer anthem “Duck That Jeep,” which surged to #12 on the Hypeddit Rock Top 100 and #21 on the Alternative charts. That momentum has already spilled over; fueled by massive fan demand, “High Street Roadhouse” captured the #1 spot on the Hypeddit charts weeks before its official drop.
Now, the industry is taking notice. Less than 24 hours after its official release, the single was tapped for international broadcast, securing a featured Sunday morning spot on the UK-based Red Berry Radio’s Crash N Burn Show.
